Humanitree

Weaving humans back into Nature.

I realize a tree is patient, and although you can’t see its growth, it’s growing. I think maybe it’s the small steps and the little things that matter.
— Pepperdine Student

Imagine laying down on a canvas and stretching your arms as branches that invite a bird to nest while your “leaf hands” catch photons of light. Feel yourself conducting nutrients up your body as rings expand from your center—or maybe your root toes being tickled by the mycorrhizal network...

What can we learn from the wisdom of a Tree?

  • Biosphere and interdependent ecosystems

  • Culture and Interconnectedness

  • Earth stewardship and ethics

  • consent and boundaries

  • Intergenerational and interspecies storytelling

Nature is Human is Nature.

50% of our DNA is shared with trees.

The seed is planted within a scroll of blank canvas unrolled in diverse environments where, with guidance and in partnership, participants trace each other as they stretch and twist as core, bark, and branch. The outlines layer upon each other as an organic framework of abstract human forms upon which the Human_I_Tree comes to life.

The Network is revealed; an organic scaffolding stretching towards the cosmos and simultaneously towards the center of the Earth.

Balance is a dynamic relationship.

What was : Is : What will be.

A global forest

How would we change if we could experience the weaving together of cultures within a collaborative piece of art? Imagine groves of Human_I_Trees sprouting in public spaces and sharing the stories of our wild nature. We are not separate, and through an immersive and beautiful process we can re-connect to creativity, community, and understand why it is essential we act in creative partnership in support of all life.
