Hello, I am Sharon DeMattia
I am a dragon rider, an invitation to the curious, and most alive within wild spaces full of creative collaboration.
I see systems as they move in patterns seeking dynamic equilibrium. I design within blurred edges to find the sweet spots of deep engagement along multiple planes relative to the awareness of the observer and the observed.
My media range from large scale sculptures to small canvases as structural partners to the rich spaces that hold stories that celebrate the power within diversity while helping us remember our interconnected nature.
I was born as Art and raised in Science.
I received my MS from the University of Colorado, Boulder in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology and worked within the Integrative Vascular Biology Lab doing invasive Human subjects research. As my understanding of the integrity of query, methodology, and measurement expanded, so too did my understanding of the fragility and limitations of adhering solely to linear processes and prediction models.
When we only measure, we tend to miss the meaning; thus causing ecosystems to collapse into themselves from lack of relational cohesion. The art within science is found in the relationships between complex systems and it is along this edge that I have developed an expertise for translating the abstraction and nuance of deep connection into concrete experiences.
